JOB INFORMATION | | Job Title: | Claims Examiner 5 | | Job ID # | J0096 | | Job Family: | Specialized Professional | | Reports To Position: | Senior Leadership | | FLSA | ADMINISTRATIVE EXEMPTION | | PRIMARY PURPOSE | | The management and resolution of complex and litigated transportation claims throughout the United States. This role requires an advanced expertise in liability and damage analysis coupled with a comprehensive understanding of litigation processes in both state and federal courts. Incumbents have up to $250,000 reserve authority; $250,000 settlement authority and $100,000 payment authority. | ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS | | | | | |
Lead the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of assigned claims. Ensure each claim is handled with precision, fairness, and alignment to KNX best practices. | Provide strategic direction and leadership in management of complex and litigated transportation claims, ensuring effective resolution through sound judgment, legal insight, and operational excellence. | Make informed decisions and resolve complex coverage and legal conflicts, including the interpretation and application of contractual language. Demonstrate expertise in analyzing contracts, hold harmless clauses, and indemnity agreements to ensure accurate and fair claim outcomes. | Establish and document timely reserves and execute claims payments. Provide recommended action for all claim reserves and settlement beyond delegated authority. | Conduct settlement negotiations with claimants and legal counsel to achieve fair, timely, and cost-effective resolutions. Apply expertise in claims handling to protect company interests while fostering trust and transparency. | Oversee and direct the litigation process by retaining counsel and expert resources, setting clear expectations in case strategy, timelines, and desired outcomes. | Provide clear guidance and direction to the defense team at mediations and trials, ensuring alignment with litigation strategy. | Develop and sustain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external business partners to enhance claims outcomes, drive alignment, and support organizational goals. | Drive change to ensure continuous improvement and increased efficiencies by promoting a risk awareness and accountability culture through visibility and training. | Mentor and coach team members to strengthen technical expertise, foster professional growth, and build a high-performing, collaborative claims organization. Promote continuous learning and development to support both individual and team success. | Participate in after-hours on-call rotation to provide immediate direction for accidents occurring outside normal business hours. | Proactively work to assist others in achieving the organization's objectives. |

Education | Education | Bachelors' degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required. | Maintain state licensing where required. | Successful completion of claims certification schools/classes such as AIC, AEI, ARM, CPCU preferred. |
Work Experience | Work Experience | 8+ years' complex claims experience required. | 2+ years' claims experience in transportation industry required. |
Skills and Abilities | Advance expertise in liability and damage analysis with understanding of litigation process in both state and federal courts. | Excellent negotiation and customer service abilities, ensuring fair resolutions and positive stakeholder engagement. | Proven ability to coach, influence, and persuade others to drive performance and achieve strategic outcomes. | Highly proficient in written and verbal communication, capable of presenting complex data to audiences with varying levels of expertise. | Dedicated to promoting a culture of trust, safety, and ethical standards across all claim-handling practices. | Ability to thrive in both independent and collaborative, fast-paced environments. | Domestic travel to mediations and trials required. |
